With the cooler weather comes a whole lot of horse shows and events in Virginia. We thought we would give our readers a quick look at our advertiser’s upcoming events for the rest of October and into November. Click on the links in red for more information.


Oct. 12-13Parelli Horse and Soul Tour – at the PG Equestrian Center, Upper Marlboro, MD. 2 fun days of demos from Pat and Linda Parelli. Colt Starting, Horse Psychology 101, Trailer Loading, Fool Proof Lead Changes, and More. 2 full days for just $25. Military, police, firefighters, EMTs, and kids 16 and under are free.

Oct. 13EKG Stables at Hill Valley Farm – the last Hunter show of the season at EKG will have Wayne Eubank as the judge. Located in Spotsylvania, VA, EKG is a favorite show venue for many area riders. Oct 12- 27 – Enjoy 16 days of blissful fox hunting at 15 different fixtures in Virginia. VIRGINIA HUNT WEEK has so much fun planned, even the foxes are excited! Go to VAhuntweek.org for more information.

Oct. 19 – Hill Top Stables in Fredericksburg, VA will host their 1st Annual Masquerade Horse Show on Oct. 19th  (rescheduled) to benefit Animal Awareness & Assistance, a local non-profit charity. Buffalo Wild Wings will be there 10 am until 2:00 pm serving up great food. Oct. 20 – Woodpecker Farm Hunter Show – (rescheduled) held at their beautiful farm in Woodford, Va. Woodpecker Farm will be having their final Hunter show of the year. Drew Taylor is the judge. Oct. 19The Event at Kelly’s Ford Equestrian Center – with the debut of their Preliminary course, new water jump, and improved footing in the gallop paths, it is sure to be an unforgettable experience. Entries were due by Oct. 1 but late entries may be accepted is space permits. Bring the kids and spend a day watching.

Oct. 19SEFHA 3rd Invitational Colt Starting Challenge – Don’t miss the fun when 3 husband and wife teams each take an unbroken horse they have never seen before, and transform them into relaxed, confident mounts. Each team will then complete an obstacle course with the mount to determine the winner of the challenge. Event is held in South Chatham, VA. For tickets go to www.sefha.net. Oct 20 – Hazelwild Farm Hunter Horse Show – It’s the last show of the season; many participants come for VHSA and BHSA points before finals in Nov. Also, there’s a costume class (fun class 18) and all participants receive a beautiful ribbon (1st place has an extra special ribbon) and treat bags. Go to Hazelwildfarm.com

Oct. 22-27Washington International Horse Show – The 55th Annual WIHS is held at the Verizon Center, in downtown DC. Spectators are invited to join in the festivities during the week to watch international show jumping at its best, elite hunter competition, and the best up-and-coming junior riders in the country. Oct. 24 – WIHS Barn Night is a favorite WIHS tradition with local young riders and horse enthusiasts who attend in groups and have a chance to enter contests, win big prizes and enjoy a fun, horse-filled evening! – See more at: http://www.wihs.org/barn-night/.

 Oct 25-27Thoroughbred Celebration Horse Show – held at the VA Horse Center, this show is a celebration of the versatility of the Thoroughbred. Offering classes in Hunters, Jumpers, Western and English Pleasure, Side Saddle, Dressage, and Combined Tests. Click here for the Prize List.
