Sharon White with “Merloch” at Morven Park’s 2012 Fall Horse Trials

Morven Park’s fall Horse Trials has long been a favorite annual stop for the nation’s top riders, many of whom live within a few hours’ drive from this Northern Virginia icon.

This year will be no exception, as the Horse Trials draw more than 350 horse/rider combinations over the weekend of Oct. 4-6, one of the most spectacular times of year at what is already a stunning setting.

In his official capacity as Course Advisor for the USEA, Capt. Mark Phillips visited Morven Park on Sept. 20 to review the course and called it “the best Advanced track I’ve seen for a very long time.” He also wrote in his report, “Morven Park really seems to be ‘on the move’ and is going to become one of this country’s key destination event sites.”

For the second consecutive year, Morven Park hosts the USEA Area II Championships during the Horse Trials, encompassing eventers from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. Riders will compete in all six levels, from beginner novice to advanced.

The event will include an advanced combined test, which is expected to draw top American riders who will take this opportunity to prep for the competition in Pau, France, at the end of October, one of the world’s six CCI 4-Star events … the pinnacle of the sport of eventing. In other words, spectators will have a chance to watch the best of the best, competing for the Championship at Morven Park. There is no charge to spectators.
