montibello-trailThis News Added 10/10/13 –

We’re sad to report that we will need to cancel the ride this weekend due to the government shutdown. They have closed the national park so we cannot use it for our trails.
We will still be making apple butter on Saturday and Lynn Coffey will still have her book signing at the firehouse from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. It will be a beautiful weekend and we would love to see you, so perhaps you’d like to join us for these events; we will just not have any marked trails.
For those whose payments have been processed, please let us know if you would like a refund, a rain check for the spring ride or if you’d like to donate it to the department. For those that sent payment but the checks have not yet been deposited, we will destroy the check and notify you via email or phone.
We do plan on holding our spring ride, so please mark your calendars for May 23 – 25 and we hope to see you then.
The Crew at MVF&ES

Original Article – The Montebello Volunteer Fire & Emergency Services (MVFES) organization was founded in 1982. It provides emergency services to the community and to the thousands of visitors that pass through Montebello every year. The community of Montebello is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. It is a rural (some would say remote) area with beautiful scenery; just perfect for a getaway weekend. The fall and spring trail rides are our main fund raising events.

Our 2013 fall camp & ride is October 11-13. This fall tradition is sponsored by MVFES and coincides with the crew cooking apple butter over an outdoor fire. This year we’re excited to have Lynn Coffey, author of the Backroadsbook series, join us October 12th from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for a book signing of her newly published book, Appalachian HeartVisit her website to learn more about the touching stories that capture the heart and soul of the Appalachian culture.

We enjoy providing you the opportunity to see some of the most beautiful scenery in Virginia, and we appreciate the support you provide to help us protect it.

Advance registration and payment are required for each rider. Please submit registration forms by October 4th and include a copy of the Coggins report for each horse. Please submit separate forms for each rider.

NOTE: Riders must be at least 12 years old. Riders under 16 must wear a protective helmet and be accompanied by an adult.  Please submit a minor waiver for every rider under 16.
