Don’t miss the 3rd Annual Liberty Ride starting from James Madison’s Montpelier on September 20, 2014. Bring your horse and your friends to enjoy this trail ride and join in the festivities in celebrating Montpelier’s Constitution Day. Ride begins at 10 am. Approx. 11 miles round trip, this ride is over pasture land, woods and gravel roads. Shoes are highly recommended. Lunch is provided. Pre-register by Sept. 17th.
From the Orange County website: The length of the ride is approximately 11 miles round-trip, and the terrain is pasture land, wooded trails, and gravel roads, so please make sure horses are shod accordingly. We highly recommend that horses are shod, without shoes some horses have experienced fatigue on the gravel roads. The ride will leave Montpelier as a group and travel through the ellipse in front of the historic mansion with James and Dolley Madison interpreters in a carriage. This first portion of the ride is optional since it will expose horses to crowds of observers. If desired, participants can wait and rejoin the group following the ellipse for the rest of the ride. Please be prepared for some of the ride to take place on gravel. Lunch will be served at The Market at Grelen, where water will be provided for horses. Following lunch, the ride returns to Montpelier where participants can trailer their horses and enjoy the remainder of Constitution Day if desired.
Pre-registration is required and the deadline for submissions is Wednesday, September 17, 2014; but it is highly recommended that registrations are submitted well in advance of the deadline.
