DSC_2836BarnNightAre you looking for a fun, exciting event for your barn or equestrian group to attend? Look no further than Barn Night presented by Dover Saddlery at the 56th annual Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) Barn Night will be held on Thursday, October 23, and features exciting competition, fantastic prizes, and the opportunity for you and your barnmates to have a great night out. WIHS is held in the heart of downtown Washington, D.C. at Verizon Center, from October 21-26, 2014.

On Thursday night, doors open at 6 p.m. When you arrive, the first stop can be the Main Concourse, where there will be a Breyer Stablemates painting station starting at 6 p.m. Throughout the night, you can participate in a scavenger hunt for the chance to win a Breyer prize and check out all of the banners on display for the Banner Contest.

Show your barn spirit and sign up to participate in a variety of group contests, such as WIHS Barn Night Largest Group (DC, MD, VA, Overall), WIHS Barn Night Group Spirit Contest, WIHS Barn Night Banner Contest, and WIHS Barn Night Video Contest. Registering is easy; just go to www.wihs.org/barn-night and fill out the online registration form.

Incredible prizes are on offer, such as a clinic with Show Jumping Olympic Gold Medalist Peter Wylde, a customized Golf Cart courtesy of United Metro Golf Cart, and valuable Dover Saddlery Gift Certificates.

The 2013 Barn Night winners and runners-up were a varied group from Maryland, Virginia, and the DC area. The Best Group Video went to NFF Stables, Autumn Grove Stables won the Best Group Banner, Meadowbrook Stables was the Largest Group (winning a golf cart courtesy of United Metro Golf Carts), and Olney Farm won the Best Group Spirit award and a clinic with Olympian Will Coleman.

Hold on to your seats when the top show jumpers like Beezie Madden, McLain Ward, and Charlie Jayne enter the arena for the $20,000 Gambler’s Choice Costume competition. A hilarious class every year, they race over jumps dressed as Superman, Little Red Riding Hood, and more! Another fun class to watch is the High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumpers, also on the evening schedule.

Last year’s Gambler’s Choice costume class winner, Ireland’s Shane Sweetnam, said of Barn Night, “It’s brilliant. All evening it was buzzing between the pony racing and the High (Jr/AO) Jumper class and this class. There’s a big crowd and great atmosphere, and the WIHS crowd understands show jumping as well, which is great. I really enjoy it.”

One of the most popular exhibitions at WIHS is the WIHS Shetland Pony Steeplechase! A viral hit on Facebook and YouTube, these tiny ponies and their jockeys race around the ring and over jumps. As part of a series this year with an event at the Devon Horse Show, you’ll want to be at WIHS during Barn Night to see who will be crowned the year’s winner. Will it be Cricket the Wonder Pony?

Cheer the loudest for the t-shirt contest and join everyone on the floor of the arena following competition to get your selfie photo with and autograph from the top show jumpers or the WIHS mascot, Major.

Barn Night is one of the most popular nights at WIHS. Last year, there were 32 local equestrian groups that came to watch and participate, and close to 5,000 spectators attended Barn Night. Buy your ticket today at www.ticketmaster.com to be a part of this one-of-a-kind event!
